Top places to visit in Leh Ladakh this summer with your best friends

Ladakh – spiritual, adventurous, fun filled – whatever you call, it offers all. The mesmerizing beauty of Ladakh beholds every one – bog small and no one wants to go back again. Visiting Leh Ladakh is like a dream come true for many and well, for us – a bunch of six college friends, it turned out to be the best trip ever. FlyWings Tour & Travels designed our package and we must say what an itinerary – everyday was a mixed bag of adventure, fun and spirituality. We got in touch with them through their website and it was an instant connection. They understood our requirements and we just set out on the most memorable tour of our lives to Ladakh.

Ours was a 7 day trip and we started from Chandigarh and proceeded to Manali. We had already seen Manali so did not spent much time there, with our only stop being the Rohtang Pass. We enjoyed doing skiing after which we retired for the day and the next morning we landed in Leh.

Here’s a rundown of all the places we visited:

1.   Zanskar Valley – one of the most beautiful places in Leh and also the most desolate places, the steep terrains are covered with snow for most part of the year. White water rafting is one adventure sport one must try in the tributaries of the Zanskar river.

Best time to visit – June to September. Do not forget to carry woollen clothes

2.   Pangong Tso Lake – Most of us love the movie 3 Idiots and not to forget the place where Kareena Kappor confessed his love for Aamir Khan. Yes it is the same place – the Pangong Tso lake. Situated on the Changtang plateau in Ladakh, this lake forms an exciting camping site and is a site not to be missed at any cost. Taxi service Chandigarh to Leh offered by Flywings tour was not only comfortable but the driver knew the terrain so well that we did not felt the need of a guide anymore.

3.   Kargil – the second largest town in Leh, a visit to this place fill you with so much respect and gratitude for the Indian soldiers and you see yourself brimming with the feelings of lover for motherland India. It is situated on the banks of the Indus river and acts a s a transit hub tp other cities like Leh, Srinagar and Padum. We then tried on some adventure activities like trekking and mountaineering. The gears and all were already provided to us by the flywings tours. It was a part of our itinerary.

Best time to visit: May to July is the best time to visit Kargil as the nights turn out to be very chilly with temperatures dipping below -5.

4.   Khardung-la-pass – gateway to Nubra and Shylok valley, this is the highest motorable road in the world. For the adventure junkies, this is just a haven. It is a challenging but thrilling rides to take on and yes we did tried and the experience was simply amazing.
Best time to visit – May to September when it is summers there. Well, if you are a patient of low BP or suffer from respiratory issues, please avoid the visit.

5.   Nubra Valley – One of the top 5 places to visit in Ladakh, Nubtra valley gives you a feeling as if you are in some Arabian desert and spending a night under the star studded sky. The two humped camels is one more attraction apart from the majestic landscapes and the sand dunes. One can only say that this is the beauty of the nature that we find desert among the snow capped peaks.

Best time to visit – autumn season is the best i.e. months from July to September

6.   Magnetic Hill – We did not enquire about the science behind these magnetic hills, we were just amazed how a vehicle parked at the base of hill with brakes unlocked starts moving uphill. It was simply amazing!

Best time to visit: May to September

7.   Spituk Gompa – With Ladakh home to monks and monasteries, the Spituk Gompa monastery is a must visit. Apart from the spiritual gains once make here, the beautiful location of the monastery is another attraction point. The winters are however, chilly, so better you carry some woollen clothes and thermal wear.
